DEVELOPING A SAFETY CULTURE IN NEPAL'S SCHOOLS
Establishing in-house a designated Disaster Reduction, Health and Safety Manager (DRHS), trained externally, is the first step towards developing a new safety culture in the high-risk education sector of Nepal.
The DRHS, in collaboration with the Principal and school management, will implement and manage integrated safety systems covering:
HISTORY OF COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL SAEFTY(CSS)
In 2005, the UNDRR, through the Hyogo Framework for Action, identified the need for proactive DRR strategies, including within the education sector. A small group of dedicated risk managers and educators began establishing a strategy starting with schools.
The Coalition for Global School Safety – Disaster Prevention Education (COGSS-DPE) was formed. Within two years, multiple agencies joined, forming a global alliance – GADRRRES – of UN agencies, international humanitarian and development NGOs and networks, donors, and Organizations that advocate for child rights and resilience in the education sector.
